Summary

In this paper, researchers from University of Cambridge investigate the self-stabilization process of the electronic and nanomechanical properties in organic semiconducting polymers. They report on direct evidence of nanosized domains of high order in their thin films and demonstrate that their device-based high-performance electrical and thermoelectric properties are not intrinsic but undergo rapid stabilization following a burst of ambient air exposure. The work captures the temporal evolution of electrical, thermoelectric, and mechanical properties, highlighting dynamic stabilization in organic electronics.

The nanomechanical properties: topography, stiffness, adhesion, and elastic modulus of the stabilized film were acquired using Park System’s PinPoint Nanomechanical measurement mode on an NX20 AFM.
