Join us for a webinar to learn about one of the cutting-edge applications of nanoscientific research:
Layer-by-Layer Nanostructured Coatings
Join us for a series of lectures featuring materials sciences expert Professor Rigoberto Advincula of Case Western Reserve University! With considerable expertise in the design, synthesis and characterization of new polymers and nanoscale materials, Prof. Advincula has designed a series of lectures in order to share the latest developments in nanomaterials research in a variety of applications and fields.
Development of new coatings is a continuously growing field in materials research and has numerous applications that affect the business roadmaps of various industries. Reports from NanoMarkets forecast that the market for such coatings will grow to $5.8 billion USD by 2020. Not surprising given that smart coatings augment products in the construction, automotive, energy, electronic goods, textile, and medical industries and enhance the performance of their goods by improving traits such as conductivity, tensile strength, corrosion resistance amongst so many others.
The use of layer and fabrication methods that enable the coating and deposition of molecular monolayers to form bulk thin films has been demonstrated. There is a growing interest in finding out how ordering multilayer-structured thin films evenly corresponds to molecular thickness when using techniques such as by simple dip coating and exchange of polyelectrolytes or even through the use of extruded films based on polymer melts. The formation of smart coatings with nanoscale structures can result in interesting optical band gap phenomena, barrier materials, or catalytic systems. This in turn can be translated to coveted property-enhancing traits that are conferred to existing products when the coating is applied to them.
